Oddly enough, the authorities of Los Angeles fully owned all rights to the land, facilities, and zoo animals. Los Angeles Zoo have 1,100 animals approximately, and they are located on 113 acres of land.

First zoo was opened in 1912 at 3.2 miles from the present site. It existed until 1965, then moved to its present location.

It should be noted that LA’s Zoo greatly improved in the last decade. In 2007 there was a gorilla reserve. In 2002, attached to the attractions Botanical Garden (7400 plants that are 800 different species). In addition, there appeared Wildlife Conservation Center. Last institution occupies 3100 square meters and is located in a restricted zone for visitors. This noble organization has been treating patients with animals. The biggest of the patient was the Asian elephant (4826 kg), and the smallest – spider tortoise (0.08 kg). Also this zoo has increased the number of condors in the world. If in the eighties there were 22, now there are 330.
