Also known as “the Venice of the North” this small village in the Netherlands is a real piece of heaven!

Located in the Dutch province of Overijssel, the village has no cars or roads here. Tourists have to travel by water or on foot over the lovely wooden bridges which are the main reason the village is called “the small Venice”.

If you decide to visit this place, you will be mesmerized by the familiar atmosphere, bohemian canals, small wooden bridges, vivid flowers and 200 year old colorful homes. Scroll down and enjoy the review of the warmest and most welcoming village on Earth.

Goli Otok also called Barren or naked Island, as former inmate Josip Zoretic describes it in his book Hell in the Adriatic, was a prison camp, a Yugoslav gulag and few people knew about it.

Tito turned the island into a high-security prison in 1949 one year after Yugoslavia broke away from the Stalinist Soviet sphere and declared itself “neutral” under its own system of “market socialism”, informally called “Titoism”.

It is not clear how many people were forced into hard labor, how many lost their lives out of dread, humiliation and the torments in this prison. Word-of-mouth indications range between 12,000 and 60,000 inmates who were held on Goli Otok, while serious sources proceed on the assumption that 16,000 political prisoners have been incarcerated on the island and 400 died.

The prison was shut down on 30 December 1988 and completely abandoned in 1989. Since then it has been left to ruin and became a tourist attraction. Scroll down and take a closer look at it!

It’s really touching when you see an animal and his owner still together before and after their “childhood”. And in that moment you realize that many good people who take care about pets their whole life, still exist.

Although there are bad people, and bad situations in this world caused by them, the good people still exist and you can see this is true by the collection we’ve made with their animals and them, how they looked like years ago, and how they look now.

For those of you who have lost a pet, like I have lost mine, before few days ago, apologize us if we touched you where it hurts the most. We say the most, because today, animals are more worth having in your life than some people and their lost is the most painful. And as I always say: “I would rather kill a man for a dog, that a human for a human.”
