One of them was the Pakistani illustrator, Omar Aqil, who turned 7 of Picasso’s paintings into 3D sculptures. They were digitally rendered and look as if they were physically constructed thanks to Omar’s great eye for textures and shadows. Scroll down and check them out.

The post The petrified people in Pompeii first appeared on paradoxoff.]]>

Pompeii was an ancient Roman city located in the Campania region of Italy. It was destroyed and buried under volcanic ash in AD 79 from the eruption of volcano Mount Vesuvius.

The eruption killed the citizens, burying them under tons of ash. Evidence for the destruction originally came from a surviving letter by Pliny the Younger, who saw the eruption from a distance and described the death of his uncle Pliny the Elder, an admiral of the Roman fleet, who tried to rescue citizens.

During the excavation, plaster was used to fill in the voids in the ash layers that once held human bodies. This allowed one to see the exact position the person was in when he or she died.

Pompeii is a tourist destination for over 250 years till today because there is always interest at tourists to see this place and his petrified people and animals inside. Take a look!
