“Sultan” the Pit Pony is a stunning raised-earth horse sculpture that is over 200 meters long.
The sculpture sits in Caerphilly, South Wales. It was designed by Welsh artist Mick Petts to serve as a reminder of the Industrial Revolution that changed Britain, and the world, forever.
The sculpture was constructed from stone, earth, and 60,000 tons of coal shale. The horse was named “Sultan” after a well-loved pit pony that hauled coal in the local mines.
