Here we are again. Halloween is almost over and its time to look at it from a distance. What was great this year? Practically, the same stuff as the year before: the movies stuff, the cartoons stuff, and some assorted stuff. The Che Guevara T-shirt is my favourite — cool idea, near perfect realisation, and really clever pun. Though the two girls reenacting Bob Ross show are great too.
Oh, October. Every single year this time the porches and driveways of America become the dwelling of the strange orange creatures. The pumpkins are claiming this land. Big and small, the ones with the lit candles inside, and ones with the LED lighting, carved with as much skill their owner can muster. And those skills are quite mad:
Of course you know that the dog was the first domesticated animal. Isn’t it truly amazing that for the tens of thousands of years man relies on his dog? You can teach the old dog some new tricks, but the caveman inside us will still think of it as of a perfect guard.
First, the classics. Gun owners love their pets, both dogs and cats.
Now this is really sinister. What strange could be about the dog. Try to figure it out if you dare.
Japanese signs are very graphic. And this is a good thing: no translation needed.
Have you ever had a nightmare in which a busload of school kids enters your home? Well, watch it live:
This Friday was not like the others for one San Antonio family. As usual, the Fort Sam school bus was bringing kids home, but this time it didn't stop by the driveway. The two (of 25 kids on board) was literally brought home, right to their own kitchen.
The malfunctioning breaks caused the bus to ram into the house wrecking havoc and practically destroying San Antonio family's kitchen. Fortunately, nobody got seriously hurt.
You can find more information in the local media.
After a recent uniform redesign the Republic of China (not to be confused with the Communist China) Special Forces could claim the World's Scarriest Police Forces title.
It's not new for the police uniform to be all black. What's make the difference is the new bulletproof masks that are reminiscent of the iconic hockey goalkeeper mask of the cinematic serial killer, just as black as the rest of the uniform.
However, those masks were not intended to be scary. Their purpose is to protect the wearer from the small firearms bullets in close combat situation. According to supplier, the mask can withstand the direct hit of a Magnum .44 bullet.
Expressing yourself with makeup could be dated back at least a hundred thousands years. Our hunter-gatherer ancestors painted their faces to scare off evil spirits and annoying fellow tribesmen. It is easier to put a paint on your face than to repeat those two words over and over again.
A Reddit user molliemander05, a habitué of the Makeup Addiction sub-reddit, has shared her latest (and greatest) creation. This Halloween she will be the internet superstar — the Grumpy Cat itself.
And what seems to be pretty logical, a picture of her wearing a makeup inspired by the internet meme was instantly turned into another internet meme. That's how it works.
To continue with the adorable Australians, let's talk about kiwi birds. Those are endemic to New Zealand, but that's ok, New Zealand is still closer to Australia than anything else. Also, being a size of a small cat with the feathers almost as smooth as cat's fur, they are totally adorable. And undoubtedly interesting:
- There are few birds who can't fly. Kiwi have the smallest wings among all of them;
- Most birds rely heavily on their vision. Kiwi are almost blind and use sense of smell to find their food;
In most bird species females take care about the eggs. Kiwi males take care about the eggs for the whole three months of the incubation period.
But the most interesting kiwi fact is not about the bird itself but about its egg. Kiwi eggs are huge. In fact, the kiwi keep the record of the largest egg to the body size ratio. Kiwi egg could be 20% of the size of the bird and weights as much as 450 grammes. Not bad for a creature not much heavier (the largest species weight only two kilos). And to push the degree of nature's madness higher, sometimes kiwi can have two eggs simultaneously.
This is the end of October once again. And it means that at least half of out planet is getting ready for Halloween. And what it really means for all of us is that the internets are overwhelmed by the pictures of people wearing scary, smart or plain beautiful costumes. But what about dogs? They deserve some of this fun too. And some of them get it. Behold the best Mario and Luigi dogs of the year.
Actually, it is just another social networks fad. The kind of those which disappear in about 15 minutes and nobody ever remember it for the second time. Just a little spec in the great sand watch of our collective attention. But it still very cute.
Meet different lizards (and their owners) who are balancing different foods on their heads.
This year we celebrated the 50 years anniversary of one of the most famous Alfred Hitchcock’s movies – The Birds. Based on a short story by Daphne Du Maurier, the film was a masterpiece of suspense and horror. I actually started the whole sub-genre of movies about the nature’s quick and unexpected revenge for all the things humanity made during its way to the top of the animal kingdom pyramid.
These awesome photos give us a glimpse on where Daphne Du Maurier found her inspiration. Birds are everywhere. They are flocking. And sometimes their flocks looking plain sinister, just like the scene from the horror movie.
